In a symbolically meaningful move on his inaugural official visit to Trinidad and Tobago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invoked a shared heritage and spiritual kinship by calling the former PM Kamla PersadBissessar "daughter of Bihar" and requesting her to bless holy waters from India to the Caribbean's Ganga Dhara.

Key Highlights:
  • Cultural Tribute: PM Modi presented holy water of the Sarayu River and the Mahakumbh—the biggest spiritual congregation of India—to PersadBissessar, together with a model of the Ram Mandir, highlighting civilizational bonds.
  • Heritage Link: Modi noted that PersadBissessar's ancestry was from Buxar, Bihar, and she had already visited her native village in 2012. "The people embrace her as a daughter of Bihar," he claimed, getting emotional applause from the diaspora.
  • Spiritual Offering: Modi requested her to offer the holy waters as an offering to Trinidad's Ganga Dhara, which showed a spiritual bond between the Ganges and Trinidad.
  • Diaspora Pride: Addressing a packed Indianorigin audience, Modi commended the Girmitiya community for their resilience, terming them \"messengers of a timeless civilization," who "left their soil but not their soul."
  • Bihar's Global Legacy: He mentioned the past successes of Bihar in democracy, diplomacy, and education and expressed that "new inspirations for the 21st century will emerge from Bihar."
  • Historic Visit: It is the first Indian PM bilateral visit to Trinidad and Tobago since 1999, reiterating India's commitment to its diaspora and cultural diplomacy.
