Elon Musk's Starlink is arriving in India, with satellite internet at high speeds for an initial device price of ₹33,000 and a monthly fee of ₹3,000.

The service is designed to complement gaps in connectivity, especially in rural and remote areas where there is minimal traditional broadband infrastructure.

Starlink has secured its operating license from the Ministry of Telecommunications, with deployment underway for commercial purposes.

Subscription Plans & Trial Offer

Starlink satellite dish purchasers will be offered a complimentary one-month test period so that they can try the service before they are requested to pay monthly fees.

Monthly subscription gives unlimited data, so one can use internet continuously without speed limitation.

Pricing aligns with Starlink’s strategy in neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Bhutan, where similar rates apply.

Market Impact & Competition

Starlink becomes one of India's three approved satellite internet operators, alongside Reliance Jio's satellite business and Bharti Airtel's OneWeb.

The service will bring competition in the telecommunications sector with a substitute for fiber-optic broadband.

Industry experts anticipate strong adoption by businesses, schools, and low-income groups.

Regulatory & Infrastructure Developments

Starlink has joined hands with Jio and Airtel to utilize available infrastructure to make the rollout easier.

The firm also needs to undergo final regulatory clearances, such as spectrum allocation by IN-SPACe.
