Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has inaugurated Sagarmala 2.0, a ₹40,000 crore initiative to fill crucial infrastructure gaps in India's maritime economy. The scheme was announced at the 4th National Sagarmala Apex Committee meeting, building on the success of the first Sagarmala scheme that has already constructed 272 projects to the value of ₹1.41 lakh crore.
Sagarmala 2.0 focuses on green shipping, ship repair, recycling, and shipbuilding while making efforts to mobilize investment of ₹12 lakh crore in ten years. Highlights are increased port connectivity, modernization proposals, and initiatives like Sagarmala Startup Innovation Initiative (S2I2) to facilitate innovation in maritime technology and logistics.
The project is in consonance with India's vision of becoming a 2047 maritime world leader through economic development and coastal sustainable growth.
