Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has unveiled plans to set up four hyperscale data centers in Assam, which are being showcased as Asia's largest. Addressing the Advantage Assam business summit, Scindia announced a Rs 400 crore investment to enhance the state's telecom and IT sector infrastructure. The planned data centers of 1 million sq ft will act as an add-on to the existing 5G network and under-way projects at IIT-Guwahati. A new 5G lab at Gauhati University was also announced. Scindia highlighted Assam's potential as a manufacturing and logistics hub, expecting 15% growth this year after last year's 19.6% growth. The initiative is in line with the government's vision of developing Northeast India.
