SpiceJet has bolstered its operational fleet by adding five more Boeing 737 aircraft, raising its total to 35 active planes. This strategic expansion supports heightened capacity for the busy winter travel season, aiming to more than double fleet size and triple seat capacity by November-end.
SpiceJet’s Fleet Expansion Drives Capacity Surge Ahead of Peak Travel Season
In a significant move to capitalize on rising passenger demand, SpiceJet has inducted five new Boeing 737 aircraft into its operational fleet, increasing the total number of active planes to 35. These additions, part of a broader winter expansion plan, also include a reactivated Boeing 737 MAX and an Airbus A340, deployed across key domestic and international routes.
The airline is relying on damp lease arrangements, wherein the lessor provides aircraft and crew, allowing SpiceJet to scale quickly while managing maintenance and insurance internally. This expansion marks a pivotal step in SpiceJet’s growth strategy, aiming to more than double its operational fleet and triple its available seat kilometers (ASKM) by November’s end.
Debojo Maharshi, Chief Business Officer, emphasized the encouraging response to new flights and highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen connectivity and service quality. With about 250 daily flights planned this winter, double the summer schedule, SpiceJet is aggressively reclaiming market share and enhancing passenger options during the festive period.
