Spotify, the world leader in music streaming, suffered a considerable outage worldwide on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, which impacted millions of customers from accessing their favorite music, podcasts, and playlists. Around 5:45 p.m. IST, reports of the outage began flooding in, with sites such as DownDetector mapping more than 17,000 outage reports from users across the US, as well as thousands from users in India, the UK, and elsewhere in the world.
The outage appeared to impact the Spotify app the most, with users reporting blank homepages, playlists that disappeared, and error messages when searching for artists or songs. The web version was also intermittently unserviceable. So far, Spotify has not formally reported the cause of the outage or provided users with an estimate of when full service might be available.
This is not the first in a series of technical backslides in recent weeks at Spotify. The company's official status page and social media channels have not stated anything about today's outage, which has added to user frustration around the world.
As of the time of publishing, service has generally remained unstable for many users, who are waiting on Spotify to provide an update about when streaming can resume normally.
