Stitching a New Future—Free Tailoring Camp Empowers Rural Women in Andhra Pradesh

In a meaningful push for women’s empowerment, Ashoka Women’s Engineering College in Kurnool has launched a free tailoring training camp exclusively for rural women. The weeklong program, running from June 16 to June 21, aims to equip participants with practical tailoring skills to support selfemployment and boost household income.

The inauguration was attended by Kaipa Padmalatha Reddy, Corporator of Kurnool’s 17th Ward, and S Varalakshmi Devamma, CDPO of Kodumur. Both emphasized the importance of skillbuilding for selfreliance.
 
Dr. R Naveen, Principal of Ashoka College, noted that the initiative is part of a broader vision to empower women through vocational education. Faculty and trainers are working closely with participants to ensure handson learning and realworld application.
 
The strong turnout reflects growing interest in grassroots skill development, especially among women seeking sustainable livelihoods. Organizers hope this model can be replicated across other rural regions to create longterm impact.
