Final inspection signals readiness of Maharashtra’s largest public hospital
On November 12, 2025, Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar conducted a site visit to assess the final phase of construction at Thane’s District General Hospital. Touted as a “dream project” of the state government and Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, the hospital is set to become one of Maharashtra’s largest and most advanced public healthcare facilities.
The 900-bed complex will include a 500-bed general hospital, a 200-bed women’s hospital, and a 200-bed referral hospital. It is designed to serve patients from Thane, Palghar, Raigad, and even parts of Gujarat. During the review, Abitkar emphasized the urgency of completing power supply systems and other final installations to ensure readiness by year-end.
