Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) has inaugurated Networks of the Past: A Study Gallery of India and the Ancient World, a landmark exhibition tracing India’s role in global civilizations. Featuring 300 artefacts from 15 Indian and international museums, the gallery highlights connections across trade, religion, art, and culture.
The exhibition spans 5,000 years, from the Harappan civilization to the Gupta Empire, and showcases India’s exchanges with Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, Persia, and China. Visitors can view rare objects such as a Roman pepper pot from 300 CE England, Harappan ornaments from Uttar Pradesh, and sculptures from Greece and Rome. Supported by Getty’s Sharing Collections Programme, the initiative marks Mumbai’s first globally curated gallery of this scale.
