In a first, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran gave Tata Trusts board an update on the group's performance and strategy forward—a first in the Tata Group's history and a feat never even attempted by Ratan Tata. The in-camera session at Bombay House had key stakeholders like Noel Tata and Mehli Mistry in attendance, marking a new dawn of transparency and collaboration between Tata Sons and its largest shareholder.

Key Highlights

Direct Briefing to Tata Trusts Board:
For the first time in the company's history, Tata Sons chairman himself presented the Tata Trusts board with business performance, future strategy, and strategic bets, departing from the tradition where only trust nominees presented such reports.

Historic Attendees:
The meeting was attended by Noel Tata, Mehli Mistry, Venu Srinivasan, Pramit Jhaveri, Darius Khambata, Vijay Singh, and Jehangir C Jehangir, which was a testament to the importance of the event.

Transparency and Alignment:
This restructuring is intended to provide full transparency and to have the Trusts in full sync with Tata Sons' ambitious growth strategy, particularly in high-risk areas such as semiconductors, electric vehicles, digital businesses, and aviation.

Significant Capital Outlays: Tata Sons is forking out ₹30,000 crore in newer ventures like Tata Digital, Tata Electronics, Air India, defence, and battery businesses—over and above the $120 billion that has been invested in the last few years.

Response to Recent Crisis:
The board was updated on Tata's response to the recent Air India crash, which included regulatory compliance, compensation, and relief to the families of the victims.

Leadership Dynamics: Noel Tata's two-hats position as chairperson of Tata Trusts and a board member of Tata Sons, along with Mehli Mistry's rising profile, is a significant shift in the group's governance and succession plan.
