Uttar Pradesh will be making history during this Van Mahotsav by initiating a mega project to plant a record 35 crore (350 million) trees in the state. The campaign, launched by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, seeks to enhance the green cover, combat climate change, and raise awareness about the environment on a never-before scale.
Key Highlights:
Record-Breaking Target: The plantation drive will have the involvement of government departments, schools, NGOs, and citizens, and hence it will be among the largest such drives in the world.
Diversity Focus: The initiative urges the development of native and fruit-bearing species to maintain biodiversity and provide ecological and economic rewards to society.
Community Involvement: There will be special events, awareness rallies, and workshops to encourage mass participation and a culture of conservation.
Monitoring & Survival: Geo-tagging and regular monitoring will be used by the state to ensure high survival rates and transparency to the planted saplings.
Prospects: If it succeeds, Uttar Pradesh's mega plantation drive can be a new model for greenery in India and other states will have to follow large-scale afforestation on a similar scale. The drive will significantly enhance air quality, benefit wildlife, and combat climate change.
