This festival, which marks the divine celebration of the gods’ victory over demons, transformed the banks of the Ganges into a mesmerizing spectacle of light and color. More than 25 lakh earthen lamps were lit along 84 ghats, stretching from Namo Ghat to Assi Ghat, creating a breathtaking view that captivated residents, pilgrims, and tourists alike.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath graced the occasion by lighting the first lamp at Namo Ghat, officially inaugurating the grand event. His presence highlighted the cultural and religious importance of this festival, which is celebrated with great devotion in Varanasi, drawing huge crowds each year. Following the lamp lighting, a grand Ganga Aarti took place at major ghats including Dashashwamedh, Sheetla, and Assi, where the holy river was bathed in the glow of countless lamps and the sound of ringing bells and chants filled the air.
The ghats were adorned not only with lamps but also with artistic rangoli, floral decorations, and themed lighting. Dashashwamedh Ghat, decorated on the theme of Operation Sindoor, saw participation from over one lakh devotees. The celebrations also featured enthralling laser and projection shows at Chet Singh Ghat, staged in three sessions that enthralled both locals and visitors.
A special cruise ride allowed CM Yogi Adityanath to witness the illuminations and fireworks along the river, adding a majestic touch to the festivities. Foreign tourists from over 40 countries attended, praising the event as a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual experience. Across northern India, places like Prayagraj, Ayodhya, and Mathura also observed Dev Deepawali with lights and prayers.
Traffic diversions and tight security ensured smooth organization, reflecting the city’s readiness to host large-scale events without disturbance. The event underscored Varanasi’s identity as a city of faith and tradition, glowing vibrantly on this auspicious night.
