Women-Led Development Central To Modi Government’s Policy Vision: Hardeep Puri

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, underscored the transformative role of women-led development in India’s growth trajectory. Addressing professionals, industry leaders, and academicians at the Professionals Connect 2026 conclave, Puri explained that the Modi government has moved beyond welfare-based approaches to empower women as leaders in nation-building. He noted that this paradigm shift is expected to significantly enhance India’s GDP growth, with estimates suggesting a potential rise of 2–3 percent through increased female participation in governance and the economy.  

 

Key highlights from the announcement include  

Puri stated that women-led development is central to PM Modi’s policies, ensuring dignity, security, and empowerment.  

He emphasized the transition from women-centric welfare to women-led growth since 2014.  

Government initiatives such as expanding LPG connections from 14 crore in 2014 to over 33 crore by 2026 have achieved household saturation, benefiting women directly.  

Providing one-third representation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies after delimitation could add 2–3 percent to GDP growth.  

Puri highlighted that clean cooking fuel, energy security, and green energy transitions are crucial aspects of women-led development.  

He praised Coimbatore as a city reflecting enterprise and confidence, aligning with the vision of Rising Bharat.  

The minister linked women’s participation to broader national goals of inclusive growth and sustainable development.  

 

This focus on women-led development reflects the Modi government’s broader strategy of inclusive governance. By empowering women not only as beneficiaries but as decision-makers, India is positioning itself for stronger economic growth and social transformation. The emphasis on clean energy, representation, and household welfare demonstrates how women’s leadership is being integrated into every aspect of policy-making.
