Odisha’s ₹400‑Crore Chip Leap: New Semiconductor CoE to Rise at IIIT-Bhubaneswar

Announcing the plan, CM Majhi said the proposed semiconductor CoE at IIIT-Bhubaneswar will be developed with an outlay of around ₹400 crore, combining state support, institutional resources and industry collaboration. The centre is expected to house advanced labs for chip design, verification, embedded systems and VLSI, giving students access to infrastructure that is typically available only in top national institutes and global fabless companies.

The CoE is also envisaged as a platform for start-ups and MSMEs working on semiconductor IP, design services and specialized applications spanning automotive, industrial, communication and consumer electronics. By anchoring a strong talent and innovation ecosystem within the state, the project seeks to position Odisha as a serious contender for future investments under India’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing programmes.
