ONGC Gets ₹220 Million Tax Notice as Part of Jodhpur GST Review
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has been served a hefty tax notice by the Joint Commissioner of State Tax, Jodhpur. The notice consists of a tax demand of ₹113.2 million, interest of ₹95.1 million, and a penalty of ₹11.3 million, making it around ₹220 million in total.

This comes on the heels of a recent ₹6.72 crore GST notice and penalty issued to ONGC in January 2025, showing heightened scrutiny of the oil behemoth's tax compliance.

The new order is likely to be in connection with irregularities in ONGC's GST payments for its Rajasthan operations. ONGC has a strong presence in the state, with the Chinnewala Tibba field in Jodhpur being one of them.

Though ONGC has not made any comment on this particular order, the company has in the past explained such problems as technical errors in GST portal mapping for offshore registrations.

This tax demand is at a time when ONGC is emphasizing increasing production from old fields and looking for new sources of income.
