Panasonic Energy to Reduce Dependence on Chinese Supply Chain for U.S. EV Batteries

Panasonic Energy, a key supplier for Tesla, has announced plans to eliminate its reliance on Chinese materials for electric vehicle (EV) batteries produced in the United States. This strategic shift aims to enhance supply chain resilience amid anticipated trade policies under President Donald Trump, who has proposed tariffs of up to 60% on Chinese imports. Allan Swan, President of Panasonic Energy of North America, emphasized that reducing dependence on China is the company's "No.1 objective." Panasonic is actively engaging U.S. suppliers and assisting Japanese and Korean partners in establishing operations within the U.S. The company operates a factory in Nevada and plans to open another in Kansas, aligning with broader industry efforts to localize production and mitigate geopolitical risks.
