Passport Verification Record Now Available On DigiLocker

In a significant step toward expanding citizen-centric digital services, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), has enabled the Passport Verification Record (PVR) on DigiLocker. The feature provides secure, instant access to verified passport records, reducing reliance on paper-based documentation and supporting India’s broader Digital India framework.  

Key highlights from the announcement include  

• Citizens can now retrieve their Passport Verification Record in the ‘Issued Documents’ section of DigiLocker once police verification is complete.  
• The integration eliminates repeated submissions of physical or scanned copies during background checks for jobs, visa applications, and compliance processes.  
• The feature is expected to benefit sectors such as banking, insurance, IT services, and aviation, where verified identity documents are critical.  
• DigiLocker ensures tamper-proof, government-issued digital records, enhancing trust and reducing risks of document fraud.  
• The initiative reflects the government’s push for paperless governance and secure digital service delivery.  
• Officials emphasized that the update expands the convenience and reach of official verification documents for millions of passport holders.  

This development marks a major milestone in India’s digital governance journey. By digitizing the passport verification process, the government is not only simplifying citizen services but also strengthening transparency and efficiency in compliance-heavy sectors.
