PLI Schemes Deliver Big: ₹1.76 Lakh Crore Investment, 12 Lakh Jobs Created

India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes have crossed a major milestone, attracting ₹1.76 lakh crore in actual investments across 14 sectors by March 2025. The initiative has generated over ₹16.5 lakh crore in production and created more than 12 lakh direct and indirect jobs, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Key Highlights From The Parliamentary Update

- A total of 806 applications have been approved under the PLI schemes, covering sectors such as electronics, pharmaceuticals, textiles, food processing, and automobiles.
- Cumulative incentives worth ₹21,534 crore have been disbursed across 12 sectors, including medical devices, telecom, and drones.
- The pharmaceutical sector alone recorded ₹2.66 lakh crore in cumulative sales, with ₹1.70 lakh crore in exports over three years.
- India transitioned from being a net importer to a net exporter of bulk drugs, with exports reaching ₹2,280 crore in FY25.
- Mobile phone production surged by 146 percent since FY21, while exports jumped 775 percent to ₹2 lakh crore in FY25.

Sectoral Impact And MSME Inclusion

- The food processing PLI scheme led to ₹9,032 crore in investments and 3.4 lakh jobs, with a strong focus on rural procurement and millet-based products.
- MSMEs form a significant portion of beneficiaries, with 70 directly enrolled and 40 more contributing as contract manufacturers.
- Technical textile exports rose to $3.3 billion in FY25, up from $2.9 billion the previous year.
