Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated development projects worth over ₹4,570 crore in Assam and flagged off three new train services, underscoring the government’s focus on boosting connectivity and infrastructure in the Northeast. The initiatives are expected to strengthen regional integration and support economic growth in the election-bound state.
Despite heavy rains preventing his physical visit to Kokrajhar, the Prime Minister conducted the ceremonies virtually from Guwahati. The projects span railway expansion, road infrastructure, and industrial development, reflecting a comprehensive push for modernization in Assam.
Rail Connectivity Boost
Three new train services were flagged off: Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express connecting Northeast with southern India, Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Express enhancing links with West Bengal, and Narangi-Agartala Express improving intra-Northeast connectivity.
Infrastructure Development
The launch included Assam Mala 3.0, a road program covering over 900 km, and a new railway workshop at Bashbari in Kokrajhar to support maintenance and generate employment.
Economic Impact
The projects aim to improve transportation, boost trade, and create jobs, aligning with the government’s vision of integrating the Northeast into India’s growth story.
