PM Modi’s Mauritius Visit: Strengthening Ties in the Indian Ocean

On March 11–12, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Mauritius as the main guest for the island nation's National Day festivities. The close historical, cultural, and geopolitical ties between Mauritius and India are highlighted by this visit. A key player in Vision SAGAR, which seeks regional security and development, Mauritius is an important partner for India in the Indian Ocean. Modi will have talks to strengthen defence cooperation, trade, and marine security during the visit. Numerous Memorandums of Understanding are anticipated to be signed, with an emphasis on topics such as ocean research and the exchange of information about white-shipping. India continues to deepen their bilateral ties and has long backed Mauritius' claims to sovereignty over the Chagos Archipelago.
