Power Ministry's Push for Discom Reform: A New Era of Efficiency and Financial Stability

The Indian Power Ministry is intensifying efforts to revitalize the distribution sector, urging discoms to enhance financial viability and operational efficiency. Recent initiatives include the formation of a seven-member committee to address discom challenges and the implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) with a ₹3,03,758 crore outlay. The ministry aims to reduce AT&C losses to 12-15% and eliminate the ACS-ARR gap by 2024-25. New rules mandating transparent financial disclosures and the adoption of smart metering technology are set to transform the sector, paving the way for increased investment and improved consumer services.
