In a historic turn of events, small businesses are surpassing corporate titans in the appointment of women to executive positions. New data shows that firms with female CEOs are seeing higher rates of profitability and innovation. Though just 10.4% of Fortune 500 firms have female CEOs, smaller businesses are embracing top-level gender diversity, gaining a big payoff. Firms with more than 30% female executives are 27% more likely to outperform on profitability. This trend is redefining the business scenario, as female-founded startups bring in 78 cents for every dollar invested compared to 31 cents for their male counterparts.
