On May 30, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the first 660 MW unit of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Project in Kanpur Nagar. This marks a significant advancement for Uttar Pradesh’s energy sector and the overall infrastructure in the region. The inauguration is part of a larger initiative that includes development projects totaling over ₹47,600 crore, all aimed at enhancing power supply, connectivity, and urban amenities throughout the state.

Ghatampur Thermal Power Project:

PM Modi dedicated Unit-1 (660 MW) of the 1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project to the nation.

This project is being developed by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Ltd (NUPPL), a collaboration between NLC India Limited and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited.

With a total investment of ₹21,780.94 crore, the remaining two units are expected to be operational by FY 2025-26.

The plant features cutting-edge environmental protections, including Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD), and a zero liquid discharge system.
