Rain Industries Ltd and Green Graphite Technologies have completed a major graphite project, enabling advanced production of coated spherical purified graphite (CSPG). This milestone strengthens North America’s EV battery supply chain, reduces reliance on imports, and supports sustainable, cost-effective lithium-ion battery material production for electric vehicles and energy storage systems.
Rain Industries Ltd, through its subsidiary Rain Carbon Canada, has partnered with Green Graphite Technologies to successfully deliver a critical innovation in battery materials. The project marks a significant step toward securing a domestic, sustainable graphite supply for the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem.
Project Milestone And Strategic Impact
The collaboration focuses on producing coated spherical purified graphite (CSPG), a key component in lithium-ion batteries. By leveraging advanced purification and carbon processing technologies, the initiative addresses the heavy dependence on China, which currently supplies over 90% of battery-grade graphite.
Innovation And Sustainability Edge
The project integrates recycled graphite sources, including end-of-life batteries and industrial scrap, alongside natural graphite. This approach significantly reduces carbon footprint while maintaining cost competitiveness, aligning with global sustainability goals in EV manufacturing.
Next Phase: Demonstration Plant Launch
Following successful pilot results, Green Graphite Technologies is advancing toward a demonstration plant in Ontario, expected to begin operations soon. This facility will support product validation and pave the way for a full-scale commercial plant targeted for 2029.
