Powering UP: Rural Youth Gear Up for a Three-Day Self-Reliance Bootcamp

In a significant drive towards rural empowerment, the Uttar Pradesh government will organize a three-day capacity-building workshop for empowering rural youth to become self-reliant. To be held from April 21 to 23, 2025, the event is under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) and will include skill development on a larger scale, self-employment, and assistance to the state's ambitious target of establishing a one trillion dollar economy.

Workshop Details

Organized by the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission for DDU-GKY.
Taking place from April 21-23, 2025.
Inauguration by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill
Development Kapil Dev Agarwal.
Principal Secretary Dr. Hari Om will chair the event, while being guided by Mission Director Abhishek Singh.

Objectives and Focus Areas

Improve the skills of institution heads, divisional joint directors, district coordinators, program managers, and MIS managers who train rural youth.
Incorporate new training methods, technological advancements, and solutions to operational issues.
Provide rural youth with quality training, counseling, and support in a timely manner for both employment and self-employment.

Strategic Significance

The program aims to empower rural youth to find employment and provide opportunities for others, promoting entrepreneurship at the village level.
Direct interaction among policymakers and implementers will be facilitated with the involvement of top-level officials from skill development, employment, industry, and education departments.
The workshop is a central enabler in Uttar Pradesh's vision to become a one trillion dollar economy.

Wider Context

The workshop sits well with national initiatives to improve agriculture modernization, enhance productivity, and ensure sustainable rural youth employment through schemes like STRY, ATMA, and the National Skill Development Mission.

Over the past three years, government skill development initiatives have trained millions of rural youth and farmers, significantly contributing to rural transformation and self-reliance.
