President Murmu To Inaugurate 16th National Voters’ Day Celebrations

India is set to mark the 16th National Voters’ Day (NVD) on January 25, 2026, with President Droupadi Murmu inaugurating the celebrations at the Election Commission of India headquarters in New Delhi. The annual event, observed since 2011, coincides with the foundation day of the Election Commission, established on January 25, 1950.  

This year’s theme, “My India, My Vote,” emphasizes the role of citizens in shaping the nation’s democratic journey. The tagline “Citizen at the Heart of Indian Democracy” reflects the Commission’s commitment to encouraging voter participation, especially among youth and first-time voters. Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal will attend as Guest of Honour, while Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi will lead the program.

History And Importance  
National Voters’ Day was first celebrated in 2011 to mark the Election Commission’s foundation day and to encourage greater voter enrollment. The initiative was designed to instill pride in democratic participation and to highlight the importance of every vote in shaping India’s future. Over the years, the day has become a platform to honor electoral officers, promote awareness campaigns, and inspire citizens to actively engage in the democratic process.
