Punjab Faces Critical Shortage of Block Primary Education Officers

Over 40% of Block Primary Education Officer (BPEO) positions in Punjab are currently vacant, according to data released by the Government Teachers Union (GTU). Of the 228 BPEO posts across the state, 93 remain unfilled. Education Minister Harjot Bains' home district, Rupnagar, is the worst affected, with 9 out of 10 positions vacant. Other districts, including Bathinda, Hoshiarpur, and Kapurthala, are also experiencing significant shortages. The GTU has urged the state government to take immediate action to fill these vacancies, emphasizing the importance of educational leadership for primary schools. Despite attempts to contact Education Minister Bains, he was unavailable for comment on this pressing issue.
