Punjab's Free Electricity Scheme: A Lifeline for 90% of Households Amid Rising Subsidy Costs

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reaffirmed the government's commitment to continuing its free electricity scheme, which provides up to 300 units of power per month for domestic consumers, despite the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited facing significant financial strain as projected subsidy costs rose to ₹21,909 crore for the current fiscal year. The government is coming up with solar energy solutions to suit the costs while still supporting all of them. The said scheme has been fruitful, as it is found that 90% households are receiving zero electricity bills.
