Top Categories: Seven major job categories include Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs), Technicians, Railway Protection Force (RPF) Constables, junior engineers, paramedical staff, and Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC).

Fierce Competition:

RPF Constable posts received over 45.3 lakh applications for 4,208 vacancies, averaging 1,076 applicants per vacancy.

Technician roles had 26.99 lakh applicants for 14,298 posts, about 189 candidates per vacancy.

Assistant Loco Pilot posts offered 18,799 openings and attracted approximately 18.4 lakh candidates, with about 98 candidates vying for each seat.

NTPC Graduate category saw nearly 720 candidates contesting per post.

Reasons Behind Increased Vacancies and Applications
The Ministry explained that in the past 4-5 years, staffing pressure has substantially increased due to overlapping factors:

Many railway employees have reached the age of superannuation, creating openings through retirements.

The expanding and modernizing railway network, with significant projects such as electrification, safety system upgrades, mechanized operations, and digital technology implementations, has generated new job roles that did not previously exist.

Recruitment Progress and Notifications

The ministry is following a structured recruitment schedule for the 2024–25 period:

CEN 01/2025: Around 9,970 vacancies for Assistant Loco Pilots, scheduled for March 2025 examination.

CEN 02/2025: Approximately 6,238 Technician vacancies with exams planned for June 2025.
