Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)'s Green Revolution: Saving Millions Through Plastic Ban

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has made considerable contributions towards environmental conservation by saving approximately Rs 3.5 crore a day from its battle against single-use plastic. The program, which is just one of the organization's large-scale green agenda, has not only saved people from using more plastic but has also motivated crores of volunteers to lead sustainable lifestyles.

 

The RSS multi-faceted strategy encompasses public awareness campaigns, clean-up campaigns, and propagating plastic-friendly alternatives. Using its large number of shakhas and volunteers, the outfit has managed to create plastic-free areas in various localities of India. The economic cost-benefit of the initiative is very high with the savings realized in terms of minimizing cleanup expenditure, lower costs due to reduced damage to the environment, and minimized health-related costs due to plastic pollution.
