Reliance Industries Ltd has marked an important milestone in its journey to renewable energy by inaugurating its first line for manufacturing solar panels. This move is one of the steps taken by the company towards its ambitious $10 billion plan of going net-zero by 2035 and supporting India'...

Solar Manufacturing Milestone:

Reliance has commissioned its first gigawatt-scale solar module production line, which will produce panels of a peak capacity of 720 watts.
The plant has the potential to scale up to 10 GW annually, and the company intends to double that to 20 GW.

Green Energy Complex:

The firm is constructing a $7.2 billion green energy manufacturing facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
This facility will have capacities for solar PV modules, battery storage systems, hydrogen electrolysers, and fuel cells.

Government Mandates:

As from June 2026, all Indian clean energy projects will be required to implement locally-manufactured solar PV modules, lessening dependence on imports.
This is in line with India's overall objective of attaining 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Battery and Hydrogen Initiatives:

Reliance is also targeting battery production, with an initial capacity of 20 GWh to be expanded in a modular manner.
The company is creating a green hydrogen ecosystem at Kandla, Gujarat, with multi-GW electrolyser production.

Compressed Biogas Plants:

Reliance is setting up 55 integrated compressed biogas plants by 2025, of which 10 are already operational.

Future Vision:

The company is targeting the production of 150 billion units of electricity from renewable sources.
These efforts place Reliance at the forefront as a global energy and materials leader.
