Revving Up History: Kush Maini Becomes India's First F1 Hope Since 2012

Kush Maini, a 24-year-old Indian racing star, has become the third Indian to be part of a Formula One team, a major milestone being the first since 2012. He has been appointed as a Test and Reserve Driver for the BWT Alpine F1 Team. Maini, who is on board with Alpine Academy from October 2023, has been a spectacular spell in Formula 2 with five podium finishes and a win at Hungary in 2024. His induction is in line with Narain Karthikeyan and Karun Chandhok, and he is working towards creating pathways for prospective Indian drivers in the sport.

 

As part of his new assignment, Maini will race in F2 whilst assisting Alpine's car development via their simulator and taking part in the TPC programme. The move is both a testament to Maini's ability as well as India's increasing presence in global motorsport. His success should be an inspiration to a future generation of Indian drivers to make their way into the world of Formula One.
