Ricky Ponting's Secret Weapon: Can Jake Fraser-McGurk Deliver a Knockout Blow?

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has backed Jake Fraser-McGurk as the replacement for injured Matthew Short for the pivotal ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against India. With Short ruled out because of a quad injury, Ponting feels the destructive 22-year-old Fraser-McGurk has the potential to be Australia's X-factor. In spite of his erratic ODI form, Ponting points to Fraser-McGurk's rapier IPL 2024 form, during which he hit at 234, as the X-factor. Though options such as Steve Smith and Josh Inglis were on the cards, Ponting is keen to adopt a high-risk, high-reward approach in this game of survival to be played on Tuesday in Dubai.
