Dronacharya Award-winning athletics coach Kuntal Roy has trained three Olympians—Soma Biswas, Sushmita Singha Roy, and Sanjay Kumar Rai—and is still committed to grooming more world-class athletes. Operating from his Sodepur Athletic Coaching Camp on the outskirts of Kolkata, Roy provides world-class facilities including a gym, nutritionist, and recovery equipment. But he laments the lack of synthetic tracks and investment in Bengal's athletics infrastructure. Roy, a 2011 Dronacharya Award winner, views it as both an honor and a duty. Despite systemic problems and less sponsorship for athletics compared to cricket or football, he continues to invest his own money in creating stars of the future. "There is no future for athletics if nobody invests," he says, quoting passion rather than duty. Roy's dedication gives hope to India's sports future despite the setbacks.
