Rural Roots, Equal Shoots: India's Gender Revolution

Rural India continues to be the central region for tackling gender disparity. Even with government programs such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), which offers substantial job opportunities for women, issues still exist. More than 75% of districts are off-track for major gender-sensitive indicators such as basic services access and eliminating child marriage. Self-help groups and women's collectives are leading the change by fostering economic empowerment and social transformation. Yet, there is more to be done to increase the participation of women in the labor force and ensure their rights are safeguarded, especially in very patriarchal societies.
