India is considering the use of Sanskrit for patent documentation, taking advantage of its precision and historical role in knowledge preservation. This effort is in line with the success of the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL), which utilizes ancient texts, including Sanskrit, to safeguard India’s traditional medicinal practices from biopiracy. The concise grammar and rich meanings of Sanskrit make it suitable for patent drafting, potentially streamlining lengthy descriptions while protecting intellectual property.  The recent use of Sanskrit in Lok Sabha debates highlights its relevance today, opening doors for its application in governance and science. While there are challenges such as a limited number of speakers and issues with interpretation, advancements in translation software may help overcome these hurdles. This initiative represents India’s commitment to blending ancient wisdom with contemporary innovation.
