Sensex Plummets 1,018 Points Amid Escalating Global Trade War Fears

Indian equity markets experienced a significant downturn as the BSE Sensex plunged 1,018.20 points, or 1.32%, closing at 76,293.60. The NSE Nifty also declined by 309.80 points, settling at 23,071.80. This marks the fifth consecutive session of losses, driven by escalating global trade tensions following the U.S. administration's recent imposition of a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports. Investors are increasingly concerned about the potential for a global trade war and its implications for economic growth. All major sectors ended in the red, with significant declines observed in midcap and smallcap stocks.
