Project Arunank, under the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), celebrated its 18th Raising Day on October 24, 2025, at Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh. Reflecting on 17 fruitful years since its establishment in 2008, the project has played a pivotal role in transforming Arunachal Pradesh’s connectivity landscape, particularly in challenging and strategically critical border areas.

Key Highlights — Infrastructure Achievements & Innovations

The project has constructed and maintained over 696 kilometers of roads and 1.18 kilometers of major bridges, crucially linking remote valleys and forward areas of Arunachal Pradesh.

A landmark achievement includes the 278 km Hapoli-Sarli-Huri Road, which was blacktopped for the first time since Independence, significantly improving access to the Kurung Kumey district.

The Kimin-Potin Road was successfully double-laned in 2021, with other vital connections like the TCC-Maza Road and TCC-Taksing Road nearing completion, fortifying connectivity near the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Technology and Sustainability Initiatives

Project Arunank has adopted cutting-edge technologies such as steel slag usage, cut-and-cover tunnels, geo cells, plastic sheets, GGBFS concrete, and gabion walls, advancing both durability and ecological responsibility.

The green campaign ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ saw 23,850 trees planted across Arunachal Pradesh, underscoring the project’s commitment to environmental conservation alongside infrastructure development.

Community Welfare and Future Plans

Special welfare measures were launched for Casual Paid Labourers, including improved shelters, protective gear, and regular health camps, recognizing their invaluable contribution.

Future plans include road widening, new bridge and tunnel construction, and enhanced digital monitoring and slope stabilization techniques to bolster infrastructure safety and longevity.

The project’s efforts not only amplify strategic defence readiness but also promote socio-economic upliftment by improving access to healthcare, education, markets, and tourism.
