Shaken, Not Stirred: Manipur's Unexpected Earthquake Cocktail

Two earthquakes rocked Manipur today; tremors were felt across Northeast India. The first, registering a magnitude of 5.7, struck at 11:06 AM, followed by a quake measuring 4.1 at 12:20 PM. Both epicenters were in Kamjong district, near the border with Myanmar. Tremors were felt in the neighboring states of Assam and Meghalaya. While officials reported no fatalities, some buildings in Manipur developed minor cracks, including a school housing ethnic strife victims in Thoubal district. Officials are now assessing the damage. Both earthquakes had occurred at depths of 110 km and 66 km, respectively. People were really frightened, although no instant reports of heavy destruction had yet emerged.
