Airfares to Prayagraj were unprecedentedly escalated, with fares on some routes exceeding international travel. The government stepped in with a 50% cut in fares and boosting flight capacity. Experts, though, caution that such spikes would become increasingly common as India's air travel demand increases. The Civil Aviation Ministry is currently upgrading its Tariff Monitoring Unit to identify unusual price spikes, with a view to striking a balance between market forces and consumer protection.
