Smoke and Mirrors: How Long Island Wildfires Are Impacting New York's Air

Despite massive smoke plumes from the Long Island fires, air quality in New York City is not so affected. Firm northwesterly winds have blown much of the smoke off the coast, maintaining air quality readings in the "good" category. Still, Governor Kathy Hochul is concerned about air quality problems caused by increasing winds. No short-term health hazard has been reported, though, but residents are urged to keep an eye out for updates and to prepare for any variation in air quality. Firefighters have continued to fight the fires, aided by state agencies.
