Sugar, Spice, and Everything AI: NIT's Sweet Solution for Diabetes

Scientists at NIT Rourkela, led by Assistant Professor Mirza Khalid Baig, created a new AI-based method of improving blood glucose forecasts for people with diabetes. The model, published in the IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics, applies machine learning to create more accurate predictions of glucose levels. By selecting important data points in blood sugar patterns, the system gives unique, individual forecasts that match personalized glucose patterns. The technology is superior to current forecasting methods and optimized for smartphone and insulin pump use. With 124.9 million diabetes cases expected in India by 2045, this technology has the potential to be integrated into smart insulin pumps, mobile health applications, and clinics to inform patient-tailored treatment regimes.
