Sun-Powered Success? JK Lakshmi Cement’s 56 MWp Solar Push

JK Lakshmi Cement has taken a major step toward sustainability, announcing its acquisition of a 26% equity stake in a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) dedicated to solar power generation. This move aligns with the company’s broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions and enhance renewable energy adoption.

The cement giant has also signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the SPV, ensuring a steady supply of solar energy for its operations. The agreement, inked with Amplus Solar, will facilitate the establishment of a 56 MWp solar power plant at its Durg facility in Chhattisgarh. This initiative is expected to replace 92 million units of conventional electricity with green energy in its first year, significantly cutting CO₂ emissions by 88,352 metric tonnes.

JK Lakshmi Cement’s leadership emphasized that this transition to solar power is part of its “Green Pahal, Behtar Kal” campaign, which promotes energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. The company has also been deploying LNG trucks for raw material transport, further reinforcing its commitment to sustainable practices.

With this latest investment, JK Lakshmi Cement is positioning itself as a leader in India’s cement sector’s decarbonization efforts, setting a precedent for industry-wide adoption of renewable energy solutions.
