Tamil Nadu Poised to Lead India's Offshore Wind Revolution

A new analysis reveals that Tamil Nadu, India's southernmost state, could generate up to $75 billion in economic growth and create 805,000 jobs in the offshore wind manufacturing supply chain by 2030. The study, conducted by Ocean Energy Pathway with support from the Global Wind Energy Council and COWI, highlights Tamil Nadu's advantageous position with high wind speeds, shallow waters, and proximity to industrial hubs. The state already represents 46% of India's total capacity for manufacturing offshore wind turbines. Achieving India's target of 37 GW offshore wind capacity by 2030 could bring substantial social and economic benefits to the country, with Tamil Nadu playing a pivotal role in this green energy transition8.
