Tariff Tensions: Will US Consumers Pay the Price for Indian Pharma Exports?

Pharmexcil warns that proposed US reciprocal tariffs on Indian pharmaceutical exports would primarily impact American consumers rather than India. The US heavily relies on Indian generics, which provided $219 billion in savings to the US healthcare system in 2022 alone. Indian companies supply nearly half of all generic prescriptions filled in the US, contributing significantly to healthcare cost reduction. The proposed 25% tariff could lead to increased drug prices and potential shortages in the US market. While Indian pharma stocks have already seen a dip, industry experts remain cautiously optimistic, emphasizing the long-standing healthcare partnership between the two nations.
