The Largest Hindu Temple in the Southern Hemisphere Opens in Johannesburg

On February 2, 2025, Johannesburg celebrated the grand opening of the largest Hindu temple and cultural complex in the southern hemisphere. The inauguration, attended by numerous devotees, featured consecration rituals led by Mahant Swami Maharaj of the BAPS denomination. This temple aims to foster intercultural dialogue and serve as a hub for community activities, including courses in art and language. With a significant influx of expat Hindus, this site is set to become a vital spiritual and cultural landmark in South Africa.
