Recent findings from ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 mission reveal that ice deposits could be present at more places under the Moon's polar surface than were initially considered. The research, released in Communications Earth and Environment, emphasizes the role of localized temperature fluctuations in affecting ice formation. This revelation gives clues to the early geologic processes of the Moon and the origin of these ice particles. The mission, which touched down close to the lunar south pole, employed the ChaSTE probe to study temperatures as much as 10 cm below the surface.
