The Pulse of the Planet: NISAR Satellite to Track Earth's Changes with Unmatched Precision

NASA and ISRO are now considering possible launch windows for the much-awaited NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) mission. The collaborative mission is expected to transform Earth observation by offering holistic information on the ecosystems, ice masses, and dynamic surfaces of the planet. The NISAR satellite, developed by NASA and ISRO, will use dual-frequency SAR technology to image Earth's land and ice surfaces every 12 days, enabling applications in infrastructure monitoring, disaster response, and agricultural management.

 

The satellite will be launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota aboard ISRO's Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle Mark II. With a mission life of three years, NISAR is likely to vastly improve our knowledge of the natural processes on Earth. The launch readiness date will be established within the next few weeks as the two agencies continue to review favorable launch conditions.
