Three Nations, One Mission: Modi’s Journey to Strengthen India’s Global Bonds Against Terrorism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a landmark five-day, three-nation tour to Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia, marking his first overseas visit since the launch of Operation Sindoor against Pakistan-based terrorists. The tour, spanning June 15 to June 19, is aimed at reinforcing bilateral relations, acknowledging international support for India’s counter-terrorism efforts, and advancing India’s interests on the global stage.

Cyprus (June 15–16):

First visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus in over two decades.

Meetings with President Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia and address to business leaders in Limassol.

Focus on deepening bilateral ties in trade, investment, security, technology, and people-to-people exchanges.

Cyprus’s support for India on counter-terrorism and Kashmir highlighted; expected to raise cross-border terrorism at EU-level discussions.

Visit is timely as Cyprus is set to assume the EU Council Presidency in early 2026.

Canada (June 16–17):

Participation in the G7 Summit in Kananaskis at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Sixth consecutive year of PM Modi’s presence at the G7 Summit.

Opportunity to reset India-Canada relations after recent diplomatic tensions over Khalistani separatist issues.

Bilateral meetings planned with several leaders; focus on global issues, energy security, AI-energy nexus, and quantum technology.

Forum to exchange views on priorities of the Global South and pressing global challenges.

Croatia (June 18):

First-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia.

Meetings with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and President Zoran Milanović.

Emphasis on expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest and strengthening India’s engagement with the European Union.

Centuries-old cultural links between India and Croatia to be celebrated.

Overarching Objectives:

Thanking partner countries for their steadfast support in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism.

Galvanizing global understanding and cooperation on counter-terrorism.

Promoting India’s interests and perspectives within the Global South and the international community.
