Tongue-Tied No More: Revanth Reddy's Linguistic Gambit Against PM

In a bold statement delivered during the India Today Conclave 2025, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy opened a language issue by saying he learned Hindi so that he could take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi politically. Reddy vehemently opposed the imposition of Hindi as mandatory; he said, instead, it ought to be made optional. Targeting the BJP-led central government, he said that they hardly paid attention to the linguistic diversity and the promotion of regional languages like Telugu, the second largest spoken language in India. The remarks were bound to rekindle the entire debate regarding language policy and regional representation in national politics and intensify the ongoing debate regarding linguistic equality in India.
